Devastating Earthquake in Nepal and Fund Raising in Edmonton
Dear community members, families and friends,
We are extremely saddened by the news of the devastating earthquake in Nepal. We would like to express our deepest sympathies to the families who have been affected by this calamity and pray for the speedy recovery of injured ones. May the departed souls rest in peace. Our hearts are with the bereaved families.
In such difficult time, we all Nepalese living in Edmonton and surrounding areas are coming together to help victims of this devastating earthquake. We encourage everyone to stay strong and united. On behalf of all Nepalese community people in Edmonton, Nepalese Canadian Society of Edmonton (NECASE) is coordinating fund raising activity by establishing “Nepal Earthquake Disaster Relief Fund 2015”. To initiate the fund raising effort NECASE has decided to donate $5,000 to this fund. We sincerely request all community members to come forward and support the cause whole heartedly. To plan a concerted effort of the fundraising we are forning a fund raising committee under the leadership of NECASE. We request all to come to the monthly Chiyaapaan Kaaryakram to help in this effort.

We are creating paypal account to collect the fund online >>
Note: You can donate either via paypal account or credit card. To donate via credit card please click continue link from "Don't have a Paypal account?" section.
If you want to donate by cash or cheque we are assigning volunteers so please stay tuned.
We are also trying to arrange tax receipts for personal tax credit. Once we collect the fund we will make effort in requesting the government to add same amount of the fund collected.
Thank you.

Radio Kathmandu
Dear Society Members,
Radio Kathmandu is one of the programs NECASE initiated and ran successfully. Unfortunately, CJSR manager informed the NECASE Board that Radio Kathmandu has been taken off the air for the past six months due to lack of regularity in the program. It was also learnt that Sunday's 11:00 to noon slot allotted to Radio Kathmandu is cancelled. To gain a time slot for Radio Kathmandu in CJSR, NECASE has to put a new application. The CJSR manager also informed that to put an application, all radio hosts must pass six-weeks training conducted by CJSR. Upon successful completion of the training the manager will decide whether or not to allot time slot to Radio Kathmandu.
Because of proximity to the CJSR station and being a Radio Kathmandu host, the Board requested Sudip Subedi to initiate the application process as soon as possible. Radio Kathmandu needs large number of dedicated volunteers to run the program. Please come forward to volunteer in hosting Radio Kathmandu program. If you are interested, committed to long term association with Radio Kathmandu and dedicated to volunteerism, send your interest to Remant KC, General Secretary at remant.kc@gmail.com. Please remember each host has to go six weeks training conducted by CJSR to become Radio Kathmandu host.
Thank you.

Volunteer Request
Dear Community Members,
The Edmonton Heritage Festival (also known as Servus Heritage Festival) is going to be held over the August long weekend (from August 2nd to August 4th, 2014) in William Hawrelak Park at . Edmonton's scenery river valley marking its 39th annual edition and featuring the Canada's vibrant multicultural heritage. The festival will feature more than sixty pavilions representing over eighty five cultures from all over the world.
As in the past Nepalese Canadian Society of Edmonton (NECASE), only one community organization in Edmonton Region, is also participating in this world renowned multicultural festival in order to promote and propagate Nepalese Language, Culinary Delicacies, Culture and Heritage. In this three days showcase, we need hundreds of community volunteers in our Pavilion. The volunteers will be working in different departments like in transportation, kitchen, Cultural show and many more. The community member working in the pavilion as the volunteer at least for one shift will receive Volunteer Appreciation Certificate and participate in Volunteer Appreciation Picnic. The Edmonton Heritage Festival Association (EHFA) also offers Superb Volunteer Reward System for the Student Volunteers. Post-Secondary Students who complete 10 hours volunteering during the three day Festival and are enrolled in Canadian Post-Secondary Institution on or before December 31 of that year are eligible for one of the many scholarships awarded by random draw ($150 - $400). Therefore, I would like to request all the interested community members to reserve their schedules (it is flexible; you can work in your convenient time). Please click the following link http://necase.ca/new/volunteer, fill out the form and submit. Alternatively, you can call me at 780-399-6361 for reservation and any query.

Announcement for nominations to Heritage Hero of Nepalese community
Dear Community Members,
NECASE Board received an advertisement from Edmonton Heritage Festival
Association for a Heritage Hero Award and decided to announce
nomination from NECASE members. There will be nominations from about
80 other communities taking part in the Heritage Festival. In the
past, NECASE nominated Ai B. Gurung for similar award. Ai B. Gurung
was successful to bag runner up position in the competition. Here is
another opportunity for us to nominate a Heritage Hero from our
community. Please help NECASE Board to come up with a nominee from
among us. The criteria for nominations to Heritage Hero include: (1) a
person who has demonstrated a long-term commitment to cultural
diversity, (2) a person who is willing, responsible and accountable to
their work, (3) a person who can demonstrate commitment to the mission
of Heritage Festival Association. If you know such person please send
nomination to me by July 1, 2014. The Board will evaluate and decide
on nominee if multiple nominations are received. I have included an
e-mail from organizers for further details. In addition, Heritage Hero
ad is attached.
Thank you.
